Fishing tackle loaner program

The Little Elm Public Library, in conjunction with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, now offers patrons the chance to check-out fishing rods and tackle!

Library patrons with cards in good standing are allowed to check out up to two (2) rods per person or two (2) rods total per family. Tackle boxes can also be checked out and these include extra hooks, bobbers, weights and a pair of pliers.

Equipment can only be checked to patrons 17 years of age or older (or a minor with an adult present). As part of the agreement with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the library is required have patrons fill out an “agreement” form (located at the front desk) for each instance equipment is checked out.

The LEPL does not sell fishing licenses, however, patrons can obtain these by going to https://tpwd.texas.gov/business/licenses/online_sales/ . Licenses are required for fishing in any public waterways in Texas (unless you are fishing in a TX State Park). It is the responsibility of the patron to obtain and maintain a current license. More information about licensing can be found at the web link above.

Local fishing guidelines can be found at the Town of Little Elm website, https://www.littleelm.org/1051/Fishing-Guidelines

Fishing equipment will only check out for a week at a time in order to provide the equipment to the most patrons possible. All equipment must be brought back to the front counter of the library to be checked back in. No holds maybe placed on equipment. Equipment is offered on a first come, first served basis.

Lastly, if you make a catch, take a pic! We’d love to display your photos of your catches here at the library! And for the younger fishing persons, we have “First Catch” award certificates, issued by the TX Parks and Wildlife Department.

If you have any further questions, please see the staff.
